Project Background

Our Johannesburg office is currently conducting a feasibility study (FS) for the Golpu Project, a greenfields project for a new underground mine, process plant and all related infrastructure.

Announcements issued to the market by Newcrest and Harmony in December 2014, highlighted the findings of the pre-feasibility study completed by the Johannesburg-based study team, and confirmed a compelling business-case for the long-life mine using a staged-approach. The intention to proceed in feasibility study was jointly announced by the project owners.

Our Services

Our scope entails the engineering and procurement for the full value chain; from the mine design and planning and geotechnical studies, to process plant design and local and regional infrastructure such as roads, pipelines and power. In addition, we are doing all the cost estimating and financial modeling. The project is being executed out of the Johannesburg Office, the location of the WorleyParsons Mining Centre-of-Excellence, with key support from Brisbane and Perth.

Results

Working closely with the WGJV team, our consultants successfully achieved a pre-determined scorecard of key metrics for the PFS. This included financial returns and capital cost that transformed the project investment case into one that fits the client’s portfolio requirements and is able to be progressed further. This ramped up the project up the value-curve.
