Project Background

Anglo American required engineering and costing of multiple upgrades and improvements to infrastructure in order to support safe mining activities, minimize water consumption and supply excess water to the local Municipality.

Our Services

The broad scope for each of these projects is:

  • Feasibility study for a new ground water export pipeline to provide additional ground water export capacity on the ground water export system.
  • Prefeasibility study to relocate a canal and infrastructure to improve the storm water handing capacity around the pit by upgrading the exporting canal and extending the canal in order to effectively remove the storm water from the edge of the pit.
  • Concept study for a plant run-off water harvesting project to improve the storm water drainage and run-off water handling in the plant area. The scope of the project also included storage facilities.
  • Concept study for the addition of a return water reservoir, new piping, pump upgrade and associated infrastructure.

The study included the evaluation of alternative technology solutions to minimize use of fresh water for the DMS and Jig Plants by maximizing the usage of return water from the slimes dam and providing sufficient holding capacity to keep the plant wet.
