Project Background

Shymanivske Iron Ore Project involves the excavation of an open pit, creation of a waste rock dump, tailings storage facilities and other associated mining and transport infrastructure.

Our Services

Our environmental management and approvals consultants provided:

  • Management of the Environmental and Social Baseline Study (ESBS) for the OVNS* Scoping Report Stage
  • Management and oversight of Ukrainian Design Institutes (UDI) for the OVNS Scoping Report Stage
  • Development of the feasibility study with sufficient environmental, social and health content to meet bankable norms, including a clear project execution approach and description of the project’s required environmental and social management plans

Additional monitoring and sampling were also undertaken by our air and noise specialists for quality assurance. Baseline data was reviewed and used to produce a detailed scoping report that informed the feasibility study.

Results

The OVNS and ESHIA processes were harmonized to develop the most appropriate combined approach in order to meet local regulations and company standards. This resulted in an enhanced Environmental Impact Assessment baseline for the OVNS submission that was consistent with World Bank norms.
