Gavin is a chartered chemical engineer with 19 years of experience in many industry sectors including hydrocarbons, minerals, metals and chemicals.
Gavin is responsible for the functional and technical management of the Safety and Risk Engineering group in East Australia, incorporating 19 safety and risk engineers and fire engineers from Melbourne and Brisbane ranging from Chief to Graduate level. He has extensive experience in all facets of process safety, risk engineering and regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining WorleyParsons he worked with Origin Energy as Process Safety Manager and ExxonMobil as Risk Management Team Leader. Gavin also has valuable operations experience having worked as Operations Coordinator at the ExxonMobil Altona Refinery.
Gavin is an expert in safety cases having managed 12 major hazard facilities in all Australian states except Western Australia whilst at Origin. Gavin also managed the ExxonMobil Altona Refinery safety cases whilst at ExxonMobil. He has prepared safety cases for QNP, ExxonMobil Yarraville Terminal and offshore HSE Cases whilst he was a safety and risk consultant.
Gavin has conducted numerous hazard and risk studies such as HAZOPs, CHAZOP, QRAs, HAZIDs, fire safety studies, SIL analysis and reliability studies. Gavin is an expert in Layers of Protection Analysis and has facilitated LOPA sessions for Origin, ExxonMobil and QNP. He has also delivered LOPA training to Asia Pacific safety and risk specialists for ExxonMobil at a process safety network in Singapore. Gavin has recently facilitated workshops for Nyrstar, ExxonMobil, BHP Billiton, Tomago Aluminium, Vale Nickel Indonesia, APA, AGL, Boral and Energy Australia.
